Issue importing WRF-Fire (ideal run) file

Dear all,

I am currently working on my MSc thesis, using WRF-Fire for research on pyro-convection. For visualizing my results, I planned on partially using VAPOR, especially to get a clear 3D image.
I have recently done my test run and I wanted to play around with VAPOR for a bit. However, when loading in the WRF-Fire output file (which is like any wrfout_d01… file), VAPOR just closes itself and this happens continuously. I did File->Import->WRF-ARW and selected the appropiate file

Is there anybody here who has experience with this and perhaps knows a fix to the issue? I have VAPOR 3.3.0. installed.

Best,
Brian Verhoeven | Wagenigen University MSc student | The Netherlands

Hi Brian,

Is there anyway that you can make a smallish version of your data set available?

Hi Clyne,

Thank you for responding. Since it seems that I cannot add files directly in this message, I have a WeTransfer link with 1 wrfout file for one timestep (which is only 11mb). I hope that will be sufficient. If not: please let me know.

Brian

@Brian_Verhoeven I think you should keep working on this. It will defiantly worth able for you and your family. :slightly_smiling_face:

Dear Clyne,

It has been some time since we have had contact. Do you possibly have an update or any extra information on the use of VAPOR for this pupose?

Brian

Apologies, Brian. I didn’t see the message regarding the link that you posted, and now it has expired. Could you please repost? Sorry again.

Of course!

Here is a new link: https://we.tl/t-jvgdl4qhtP

It contains a bigger file (~250mb) that contains all timesteps and it contains a small file that contains just one timestep.
Let me know if you have any questions about the data/settings!

Thanks. WE’ll take a look.

Hi Brian,

A fix has been submitted for this bug here:

As soon as it is approved it will made available in the next weekly build; hopefully in the next week or two.

cheers

jc

Dear John (sorry for thinking that Clyne was your first name),

Thank you for looking into it and developing a fix! I look forward to the update and using VAPOR for my WRF-Fire analyses.

Best,
Brian

Dear John,

I wanted to install the weekly build that is released 4 days ago, but it seems as if there is no installer present for Windows (I see the VAPOR3-3.4.1-CentOS7-Weekly.sh, VAPOR3-3.4.1-Darwin-Weekly.dmg and VAPOR3-3.4.1-Ubuntu18-Weekly.sh). The win64.exe seems to not be there.

Where else can I download the corrected VAPOR version where the WRF-Fire issue is fixed in?

Best,
Brian
